100 years.
The Berlin Apartment video game released
The game immerses players in the evolving stories of individuals who inhabited a single
Berlin apartment across a century.
The game begins with Dilara, whose father is renovating an empty Berlin
apartment during the coronavirus pandemic.as they peel back layers of
wallpaper, players are transported back in time to witness the lives of
those who came before.
Over approximately four hours of gameplay, players inhabit the perspectives
of a child during World War One, a Jewish cinema owner preparing to flee
to Paris, and an author living in East Germany.
The game doesn’t directly place players in the midst of major political
events, but rather offers a glimpse into the everyday experiences of
people living through those times.
Böhme was inspired by his own Berlin flat
the Berlin Apartment
art director Hans Böhme shared that the idea for the game originated while
he was looking out the window of his own Berlin apartment, contemplating
the countless lives that had occupied the same space over the years.
Consequently,a window serves as a central element in
The Berlin Apartment, offering players a view of history unfolding
on the street below-from the unfurling of Swastika banners to the
construction of the Berlin Wall.
Players are encouraged to consider how they might have acted in similar
circumstances, questioning whether they would have remained silent or
risked everything to challenge the prevailing political order.
