Speaking in the Bundestag, during a conference organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation to discuss the challenges facing the Euro-Mediterranean area in today’s international context, Mr. Azoulay highlighted “the spiritual and temporal leadership embodied by HM King Mohammed VI within the Community of Nations”.
The Community of Nations, he continued, had acknowledged Morocco‘s pioneering, voluntary commitment to embracing diversity and respecting all its differences, aligning with its historical, cultural, and traditional foundations.
During his hour-long speech, the Advisor to HM the King emphasized the coherence and impact of the structural provisions established by Morocco in this context, particularly the preamble of the Constitution adopted by the Moroccan people in July 2011. This preamble explicitly acknowledges the uniqueness of Moroccan society, which has been shaped by various civilizations.
“We must also acknowledge the exceptional national and international impact of the historic inauguration in January 2020 in Essaouira, as well as the rewriting and revision of school textbooks, which now teach our children their entire history,” the Advisor added.
He also recalled HM King Mohammed VI’s statement in March 2009, where he declared that ”the reading of the Holocaust and that of the Moroccan people are not those of amnesia, but rather those of a memorial wound inscribed in one of the most painful chapters in universal heritage.”
“These words spoken in Morocco, in the land of Islam, resonate deeply today, in this hall of the Bundestag, just a few hundred meters from the space that saw Hitler take power,” Mr. Azoulay emphasized, urging the German political figures and audience to reflect on the maturity, sense of responsibility, and ethical awareness displayed by Morocco in its pursuit of diversity.
“Discussing diversity in the context of Moroccan social modernity is not an ordinary exercise,” Mr. Azoulay concluded.
He also acknowledged the presence of Dr. Norbert Lammert, former Bundestag president, and Mr. Armin Laschet, former candidate for Chancellor Angela Merkel, expressing his appreciation for their participation in the conference. He also thanked the Ambassador of HM the King in Germany, Mrs. Zohour Alaoui, for her contribution to the event.
