Fátima Bosch’s Miss Universe Win Puts Father, Pemex Executive Bernardo Bosch Hernández, Under Scrutiny

The coronation of Fátima Bosch Fernández as Miss Universe 2025 has thrust her father, Bernardo Bosch Hernández, into the public eye, prompting increased scrutiny of his decades-long career within the Mexican energy sector. Bosch Hernández, an engineer with over two decades of experience at Pemex, has seen his professional life and past controversies resurface following his daughter’s victory.

From Engineering Roots to Pemex Leadership

Bernardo Bosch Hernández is a graduate of the Universidad Iberoamericana with a degree in industrial engineering. He further specialized in Petroleum Engineering at AIPM, honed his Management Skills at ITAM, completed a Business Management Program at the Pan American Institute of Senior Business Management, and underwent Senior Management training for public entities at the National Institute of Public Administration. He also holds a master’s degree in Administration with a specialty in finance from the Universidad del Valle de México.

His career in public service began in 1995, with his entry into Pemex in 1998. Since then, he has steadily ascended through the ranks, holding several key positions including Superintendent of Internal Audits in the Cantarell Project (1998-2002), Management Control Manager at Pemex Exploration and Production (2009-2014), Responsibility and Social Development Manager (2014-2016), and Public Relations and Legislative Liaison Manager (2016-2017).

Rising Through the Ranks & Recent Appointment

Since 2017, Bosch Hernández served as an advisor to the General Director of Pemex Exploration and Production, overseeing strategic, operational, and institutional liaison areas. On October 30, 2025, he was appointed deputy director of Safety, Health, Environmental Management, Energy and Reliability at Pemex – a position described as one of the State company’s most technically and administratively significant roles.

His contributions were recognized in 2018 with the Race Award from Harvard Law School in the Government Social Responsibility category, awarded for the development of the Community and Environment Support Program (PACMA). According to his most recent financial disclosure, Bosch Hernández reports an annual income of $3,206,453 pesos, alongside ownership of five ranches, two pieces of land, a house, and three vehicles.

Past Sanctions and Legal Battles

Bosch Hernández faced a significant challenge in 2019 when the Ministry of Public Administration imposed a 10-year disqualification due to alleged illicit enrichment. Pemex subsequently confirmed his dismissal. However, the Federal Court of Administrative Justice overturned the sanction, determining that Bosch Hernández had successfully demonstrated “no legal basis” for the measure. Following the ruling, his name was removed from the System of Sanctioned Public Servants.

Political Aspirations and Family Pride

Beyond his role at Pemex, Bosch Hernández has also been involved in the political sphere, serving as an advisor in the Senate and reportedly seeking to further his career in politics. His daughter, Fátima Bosch, has publicly expressed her pride in her family, stating, “I am very proud of my family, they are honest people, they are hard-working people who all they do is give their best to others.” Pemex also publicly congratulated Fátima Bosch on her Miss Universe win via its official X account.

Controversy Surrounds Miss Universe Contest

The Miss Universe 2025 competition itself was not without controversy. Omar Harfouch resigned from the judging panel, alleging that finalists were pre-selected by an “improvised jury” and that he was pressured by Mexican businessman Raúl Rocha to favor Fátima Bosch, due to alleged business ties between Rocha and a co-owner of the Miss Universe Organization. Subsequently, Princess Camilla of Bourbon Two Sicilies and former footballer Claude Makélélé also stepped down as judges, raising questions about the contest’s transparency and internal procedures.
