PAID. –

The return of Value Added Tax (VAT) for older adults is expected to be consolidated in March and April 2024. This was confirmed by Damián Larco, director of the Internal Revenue Service (SRI).

The Ministry of Economy transferred USD 26.7 million for the VAT refund.

The director indicated that in 2023, 5.3 million procedures were registered for more than 1.1 million people who requested a VAT refund. For this, he said in an interview, more than USD 133 million was disbursed.

Larco said that with the VAT increase they hope to catch up with the debts, especially the returns that have not been made since October 2023.

“Within this debt is the refund of VAT to the elderly and people with disabilities. This adds to the fiscal cash crisis, since when we took office there were only $180 million. Once we have the resources, we hope to catch up as soon as possible. Some payments are being made towards this debt. Precisely for this reason it was important to approve the 15% VAT because this will allow us to have the necessary resources,” said the official.

On the subject, the Ministry of Economy and Finance announced days ago that it transferred USD 26.7 million for the refund of VAT to vulnerable groups, including older adults or people with disabilities. /The time.
