Venice plays host to a star-studded wedding
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding celebrations are underway.
- The three-day wedding celebration will host around 200 guests.
- Celebrity attendees include Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, and Tom Brady.
- Protest threats have caused some wedding event locations to change.
Venice is buzzing with excitement as the wedding festivities for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez commence. How long is Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding celebration? The lavish, three-day celebration, drawing in around 200 VIP guests, promises a spectacle of love and luxury against the backdrop of the historic city.
A-List attendees arrive in style
The guest list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood, business, and sports. Ivanka Trump, accompanied by her husband Jared Kushner and their children, arrived on Wednesday. Kim Kardashian, along with her sister Khloe and mother Kris Jenner, was photographed arriving on Thursday. Oprah Winfrey and former NFL quarterback Tom Brady were also seen arriving via water taxis at the airport.
Protests prompt venue changes
While Venice is accustomed to hosting high-profile weddings, including those of François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek-Pinault in 2009, George and Amal Clooney in 2014, and Alexandre Arnault and Géraldine Guyot in 2021, this event hasn’t been without its challenges.
Protestors associated with the group No Space for Bezos threatened canal blockades, leading to changes in the wedding plans. According to the group, one of the weekend’s events was moved from a grand, centrally located space to a former shipyard on Venice’s perimeter.
Details of the lavish event
Despite the adjustments, the wedding promises to be an unforgettable affair. The official events are expected to commence Thursday night at the medieval Madonna dell’Orto cloister. A traffic ordinance from Venice City Hall supports this, as pedestrian foot traffic is barred around the 14th-century cathedral, which houses artworks from the Venetian painter Tintoretto, from late afternoon until midnight.
Minimizing disruption and maximizing local resources
Lanza and Baucina, the wedding planners, stated that their clients instructed them to minimize “any disruption to the city.” They are reportedly using a significant number of local suppliers to help create the event. Approximately 80% of the wedding provisions are being sourced from local vendors, including pastries from Rosa Salva pastry shop, the oldest in Venice, and gifts from Murano glassware designer Laguna B.
Venice gears up
The city is also playing its part in accommodating the celebrations. Around 30 of Venice’s elite water taxis (out of 280 total) are thought to be reserved. One taxi driver confirmed a booking from June 25 through June 30 for “a big wedding” but declined to provide further details. The city’s gondola association has also confirmed that gondolas have been put on hold and are ready for the event.
The dress
One of the most anticipated details is, of course, Lauren Sanchez’s wedding gown. While the details remain a closely guarded secret, luxury Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana is a strong contender, with Oscar de la Renta also mentioned as a possibility for one of her looks this week.
