Biden expresses support for Erdogan after devastating earthquakes

US President Joe Biden spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Monday to express his condolences for the devastating earthquakes that have shaken the country near its border with Syria, leaving thousands dead.

Biden also reiterated to Erdogan that the United States is ready to give him “all” the help he needs, the White House said in a statement.

In this regard, Biden explained that there are already US teams that they are “rapidly” deploying to Turkey to assist in search and rescue effortsas well as to give any other assistance that is necessary for those affected by the earthquake, including health care.

Specifically, the US has plans to send two specialized urban search and rescue teams to Turkey, with 79 people each, detailed John Kirby, one of the White House spokesmen.

According to the latest data, More than 4,300 people have been killed and another 19,000 injured in Syria and Turkey..

The earthquakes, which struck southeastern Turkey near the Syrian border, have also left thousands of buildings collapsed as people continue to search for survivors amid freezing temperatures.
