Yale University history professor Timothy Snyder thinks that when US President Joe Biden is not defending the post, he has more time to think about his legacy. Therefore, the expert on Central and Eastern Europe predicts that the current US administration will do unexpected things in the next six months in the policy regarding Ukraine, which is resisting Russian aggression.

“It’s likely that in the next six months the American people will do one or two unexpected things. But not because they think Donald Trump will win. I think simply because Biden will have more time to think now that he doesn’t have to to run,” the author of the book Bloody Lands: Europe between Hitler and Stalin is convinced.
Snyder, who is also a permanent associate of the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, does not anticipate a drastic change in American policy towards Ukraine in the event of Kamala Harris’s victory. “If Donald Trump wins – in that case there would be a radical change,” Snyder said in an interview with the Associated Press.
According to Snyder, Biden will think about the state in which he wants to leave office to a possible president Harris. “I think the only thing they should really think about is how to allow Ukraine to defend itself under international law. Which would mean that Ukraine should be able to hit Russian airports or any location in Russia where a direct military threat is coming from for Ukraine,” says Snyder.

In my opinion, that’s probably not the case, but I think it’s something that he will most likely try,” an American historian thinks about Trump’s actions.
In the interview, Snyder said that Europeans can be happy in the medium term that Biden has resigned, giving Harris a much better chance in the presidential race. “However, in the long run, there is a fundamental lesson that you cannot allow America to be indispensable. You should show that you can handle a regional war, a major regional war like this on your own continent,” concludes Timothy Snyder.
“Surveys are not relevant now. An expert on the USA indicated what will decide the election. (Full article with video here)
