The facility will be located within the Michigan Central Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan and is slated to open in February 2026.
A Hub for Creative Exploration
The incubator will feature a virtual production studio, a special effects lab, and a creators’ lounge, providing a extensive environment for aspiring artists and innovators. According to an announcement on thursday, December 4th, the project is a collaborative effort between Big Sean’s Sean Anderson Foundation and Usher’s New Look association, alongside partners Ilitch Sports + entertainment and Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
Shawn H. Wilson, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, emphasized the significance of the project, stating,”Detroit has always been the blueprint for innovation, from the assembly line to Motown. This collaboration – especially with two heavy-hitter alumni – extends that legacy by proving the creative economy can be a pathway to ownership and equity.” He further explained that the initiative is focused on “transforming talent into capital and creativity into generational wealth.”
Empowering Detroit’s youth
Big Sean, a native of Detroit, articulated his commitment to fostering local talent, sharing that his “mission has always been to make sure the next generation of dreamers and innovators from my city have the access, tools and mentorship to do the same.” He envisions the Innovation Incubator as a means of demonstrating to young people that they “don’t have to leave Detroit to chase opportunity; they can build it right here.”
Usher echoed this sentiment, expressing his hope that the incubator’s resources will serve as a foundation for the youth’s future achievements. “I’ve always been a true believer in igniting a spark in the next generation to be better and have access to things we didn’t… It takes just one person to believe in your success, and I’m honored to be one of many in this partnership to help make that happen,” he said.
A History of Giving Back
This investment builds upon Big Sean’s established record of philanthropy. In 2015, he opened the Sean Anderson Studio of Infinite Possibilities, a 784-square-foot recording studio at his former high school, Cass Technical High School. He has also consistently supported the Boys & Girls Club through events like Detroit’s On Now Weekend, actively working to empower younger generations.
