Course Challenges and Competitor Insights
Hopkins, who is returning from Guadeloupe, feels well-prepared for the race. He is especially confident with his TT bike, hoping to improve on his performance from last year.
The revised course around St David’s introduces several climbs, which Hopkins believes will suit his technical riding style. He is optimistic about the modifications.
“I’m expecting it to be very close again,” Hopkins said. “I’m feeling good on the bike, especially the TT bike, so I’m really looking forward to it. I definitely did a great time-trial last year and I’m hoping to improve on that again this year.”
Rivalry and Friendship
Conor White, who has previously won the national time-trial title in 2018 and 2022, is also eager for another victory. He highlighted the importance of the championships, noting the valuable UCI points and the opportunity to race with the Bermuda flag on his jersey.
“Every year it’s a huge priority to come home and fight for the championships,” White said. “It gives us valuable UCI points which can we use to qualify for international events and with the title you get the right to make your own special Bermuda jersey.”
White, Hopkins, and Narraway share a strong bond off the bike, which intensifies the competition during races.
“It’s good competition and it’s intense during the race but we’re good friends before and after,” White said.
White is a bit unsure of his shape this year. His last race against Hopkins and Narraway was in October in Guyana, where he came out on top, but he acknowledges their hard work in time trials.
Racing starts at 6 p.m., marking the start of a weekend of national championship events.
