Patna/Madhubani: A unique exhibition titled ‘Swadesh’ showcasing the diverse and vibrant folk and tribal art traditions of India was organized in Dubai. Organized by Vidisha Creation, the event aims to raise awareness about lesser known art forms from different regions of India. This ‘Swadesh’ exhibition had a special focus on lesser known art forms such as Manjula art and Gond art, which are often influenced by the more famous Mithila painting. Its curator Vidisha Pandey said, ‘In a single state like Bihar, we have many rich artistic traditions like Tikuli art and Manjusha art apart from Mithila art.’
Bihar’s art is making waves in foreign countries
Vidisha further added that ‘However, many of these art forms are relatively unknown to the wider public.’ A variety of folk and tribal artefacts were displayed in the exhibition. These include the colorful Mithila paintings of Bihar, the intricate Kolam artworks of Tamil Nadu, the fascinating Warli tribal art of Maharashtra, the famous mural art tradition of Kerala and the mythological stories depicted in the therapeutic mandala artworks. Apart from this exhibition, the ‘Swadesh’ event also included interactive workshops, where visitors had the opportunity to learn traditional techniques directly from master artisans, and sale of artefacts.
