An international team of researchers led by Jonathan H. Jiang, of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, in California, believes that the time has come to renew the messages that we have so far sent to extraterrestrials. And for that purpose, they have developed a ‘modern’ message that, as explained in a recent article on ‘arXiv’, can be understood by any intelligent extraterrestrial. Now, the researchers want to open a “global dialogue” to decide whether or not the new message should be sent.
The technology to deliver the message won’t be ready for a few years, so Jiang and his colleagues want to use that time to engage in a dialogue about how to contact other potential civilizations and exactly what to tell them about us.
