A period favorable to good deals, but also to excesses. More than a third of the nearly 3,000 goods trucks checked in France on the occasion of Black Friday, a major promotional operation which takes place at the end of November, were in violation, particularly concerning the employment conditions of drivers, announced Friday the government.

In its press release, the Ministry of Ecological Transition recalls that on the occasion of Black Friday, the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune “announced a national campaign of targeted controls throughout Black Friday against social dumping”.

“Purchasing behavior has major impacts on the environment, on safety, on competition between transport professionals and on the working conditions of drivers in the sector. These effects are increased tenfold during commercial operations on a national scale,” according to the press release.

Thousands of vehicles checked throughout France

The ministry announces that “nearly 3,000 vehicles were checked, both in mainland France and overseas. This exceptional operation and the exemplary mobilization of state services made it possible to note that a third of them were in violation.”

“More than 60% of the offenses related to the employment conditions of drivers and 15% to their working conditions,” it is specified.

“As these figures demonstrate, this operation was necessary and I would like to salute the action of the control services, in particular that of the land transport controllers and the Dreal”, the regional directorates of the environment, planning and housing, declared Clément Beaune.

“They work to respect social conditions and competition rules in road transport. We need to be mindful of our purchasing behaviors throughout the year. Our clicks are not free, they have a carbon cost and a social cost to which we must be particularly vigilant,” added the minister.
