Blood diseases, Ail scholarships to 2 young scientists

Two scholarships funded by AIL, the Italian association against leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, to support young researchers engaged in the fight against blood diseases, graduates in Medicine and Surgery, Biological Sciences or Biotechnology. Named in memory of two big names in Italian hematology, Franco Mandelli and Francesco Lo Coco, the annual scholarships, worth 30 thousand euros gross, were delivered to the MiCo-Milano Convention Center on the occasion of the 48th Sie Congress (Italian Society of Hematology ) and the 16th Sies Congress (Italian Society of Experimental Hematology).

The Mandelli Memorial Scholarship was won by Marco Basset (Pavia) for the study of molecular imaging, magnetic resonance and echocardiography combined with cardiac and clonal disease biomarkers to predict survival and evaluate response to therapy in cardiac amyloidosis Al, Ail reads in a note. The scholarship in memory of Lo Coco was won by Marcella Sabino (Perugia) for research on the topic: exploring the essentiality of the DNMT3A mutation in the maintenance of AML (acute myeloid leukemia, ed) and its potential in the development of AML Human.

Sergio Amadori, national president of AIL, in the presence of Paolo Corradini, president of Sie, presented the awards to the winners during the inaugural ceremony of the congress, on Monday 25 October in the plenary room of the MiCo.
