Russian businessman Vladislav Klyushin, who was extradited from Switzerland to the United States, may have access to information about the secret operations of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU) abroad. This was announced on Monday, January 3, by Bloomberg, citing sources close to the Kremlin and Russian intelligence.

According to them, in particular, Klyushin has access to documents regarding the hacking of the servers of the Democratic Party of the United States in 2016. In addition, according to Bloomberg sources, Klyushin has access to other classified documents, including information about the poisoning of former double agent Sergei Skripal in British Salisbury in 2018.

Klyushin’s connections with the Kremlin through his firm M13, which supplied media and social media monitoring services to the Russian presidential administration and other Russian government agencies, could make him a “useful source of information” for the US government. Especially if Klyushin makes a deal with American justice.

Accused of insider trading

The businessman was arrested in Switzerland in March 2021 at the request of the United States, where he was extradited in December. American law enforcement agencies accuse him of insider trading worth tens of millions of dollars. He himself denies his guilt. Klyushin’s lawyer, Oliver Sirik, told NBC that before the arrest of his client in 2019 and 2020, British and American intelligence services tried to recruit.

In turn, the press secretary of the Russian Embassy in Switzerland in an interview with TASS called the extradition of the businessman to the United States “another episode of Washington’s ongoing” hunt “for Russian citizens in third countries.”
