Ultimately, a mixed outfit was chosen for the school uniform experiment. Already announced in December by Gabriel Attal, then Minister of Education, and confirmed by Emmanuel Macron during his press conference on January 16, this large-scale test will allow the communities participating in it to offer students a key outfit in hand.
This outfit, revealed by “Le Figaro” on Friday and confirmed to AFP by a source within the executive, will be composed of a white or gray polo shirt, a navy blue sweater and gray pants. For the little ones, in kindergarten, a blouse will be added to the kit. The outfit will therefore be mixed: no choice between skirt or pants for the girls. The garment, which is intended to be as neutral as possible, will however be equipped with a scratch which will allow communities to affix a logo.
“An atmosphere of work and equality”
This unique outfit will be tested for students this year in around a hundred establishments, with a view to possible generalization in 2026, said Emmanuel Macron. As the government had already indicated, the kit, the cost of which is 200 euros, will be financed half by the communities and the State.
In its guide, sent to communities in December, the ministry estimated that “wearing common clothing is likely to create an atmosphere of work and equality within the establishment”. It would also be “a means of enhancing the image of the school and the establishment by creating a feeling of belonging and unity between students”.
