The party has expelled the BNP leaders who are contesting for the post of chairman, vice chairman (male and female) in the second phase of the upcoming upazila parishad elections, from all positions including primary members of BNP according to the party constitution.

Yesterday, this information was informed in a press release signed by senior joint general secretary of the party, Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

According to the notification, BNP leaders who are competing for the post of chairman, vice chairman (male and female) in the second phase of the upazila parishad election to be held on May 21, have been expelled from all positions including primary membership of BNP according to the party constitution. Among those expelled, 11 people from Rangpur organizational division, 5 from Rajshahi division, 3 from Barisal division, 6 from Dhaka division, 2 from Faridpur division, 6 from Mymensingh division, 15 from Sylhet division, 5 from Chittagong division, 2 from Comilla division and 6 from Khulna division.

Among them 26 chairman candidates, 19 vice chairman candidates and 16 female vice chairman candidates.

Earlier on May 8, BNP expelled 79 people for participating in the polls in 150 upazilas of the first phase. In other words, BNP expelled a total of 140 people in two phases. The BNP lifted its expulsion order after a woman vice-chairman candidate announced her withdrawal from the polls after being expelled in the first round. None of the rest are willing to withdraw from the election. Rather, they are blaming the party for boycotting the vote. Like 2014, BNP also boycotted the 12th parliamentary elections due to non-partisan government demands during the elections. However, compared to the 10th parliamentary election, this time there were more candidates. A central leader of BNP has won independent elections, a vice chairman has directly joined Awami League and won on the boat symbol.

Meanwhile, several others contested the polls in other parties or as independent candidates. BNP is not going to upazila elections like national elections. They are steadfast in their decision that there will be no election under this government. The party did not participate in any local elections for at least a year and a half before the 12th parliamentary elections.
