After the gains, the ‘main opposition party’ of the field politics, BNP, is facing financial deficit again. The Election Commission has seen such figures as the income and expenditure of the calendar year.
BNP saw a profit last year after being in deficit for three consecutive years. But, this time again the expenses of the party increased more than the income. This time, the expenditure of the party has exceeded the income by 2 crore 54 lakh 43 thousand 819 taka.
This information is known from the account statement submitted by BNP Chairperson Bijan Kanti Sarkar to Election Commission (EC) Secretary Shafiul Azim on Monday (July 29).
In 2023, the income of the party is 1 crore 10 lakh 80 thousand 151 taka. And 3 crore 65 lakh 23 thousand 970 taka has been spent. It has been spent on office expenses, staff salaries, advertisements in newspapers, poster leaflets, iftaar arrangements and financial support to the families of missing and murdered party leaders. Expenditure is more than income by 2 crore 54 lakh 43 thousand 819 taka.
According to the accounts submitted by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP, the total income of the party in 2022 was Tk 5 crore 92 lakh 4 thousand 632. And 3 crore 88 lakh 33 thousand 803 taka was spent. That is, the profit of the party was 2 crore 3 lakh 70 thousand 829 taka. Before that, the team did not see profit for three consecutive years.
According to the People’s Representation Order, every year by July 31, registered parties have to submit their income and expenditure accounts for the previous calendar year to the Election Commission. Earlier, several parties, including Bangladesh Awami League, submitted their accounts to the EC.
