Boeing enters the flying taxi market

by time news

Boeing announced yesterday its intention to invest an additional $ 450 million in a pilotless electric air taxi development project.

Boeing and startup WISK AIR have announced a major investment in a joint venture between Boeing and KITTY HAWK.

The new air taxi takes off and lands vertically (VITOL), it looks like a small helicopter but the engine is electric and the taxi will make no noise. The aircraft is supposed to operate primarily in large cities, in an urban environment, and fly people and cargo.

In the US there are now more than ten companies developing air taxis, but the importance of WISK AIR is the big investment of a company like Boeing.

Mark Allen, head of Boeing’s strategy division, said the company believes in the project and that it is important to develop state-of-the-art transportation capabilities, propulsion aircraft with the help of artificial intelligence, and automatic and electric vehicles.
