Bogotá is making a bold play for international recognition, not just as a cultural hub, but as a rising force in teh world of sports. On December 13, 2025, officials unveiled Internacional de Bogotá, a newly rebranded football club backed by a notable $20 million investment and a star-studded consortium of global figures, and prominently featuring the city’s official brand on it’s jersey.
A New Era for Bogotá Football
The club, formerly known as La Equidad, underwent a complete transformation under the ownership of the Porter Group.
The rebranding is more than just a change in ownership; it’s a deliberate effort to weave the identity of Bogotá into the fabric of the team. The new jersey incorporates symbolic elements representing the city’s unique character. These include the Eastern Hills, representing the city’s origin and landscape; the Andean Condor, symbolizing resilience and leadership; and a white-black-gold palette, inspired by the legend of El Dorado and representing unity, strength, and greatness.
City Brand Takes Center Stage
The integration of the Bogotá Brand onto the club’s shirt marks a pivotal moment for the city’s marketing efforts. According to a statement from a senior official, “This milestone strengthens the construction of identity, competitiveness and international projection of the capital, consolidating bogotá as a city that promotes talent, innovation and sports as strategic platforms to connect with the world.”
The launch received widespread support from key city entities, including the Mayor’s Office, the Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD), the District Tourism Institute (IDT), the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, and Invest in Bogotá. These organizations recognize the project’s potential to amplify Bogotá’s narrative on both national and international stages.
A Collaborative Vision for the Future
Nicolás Maya, president of Internacional de bogotá, emphasized the collaborative spirit driving the project. “For our club it is an honor to have the support of Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and the city’s entities,” Maya stated. “We share a common vision: to project a positive, diverse and contemporary Bogotá to the country and the world. Internacional de Bogotá was born to actively contribute to that purpose.”
The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce echoed this sentiment, highlighting the economic benefits of investing in sports. “Sport is an engine of development, competitiveness and quality of life,” said Ovidio Claros, executive president of the Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud to accompany this project that reflects trust in Bogotá and projects it to the world as a dynamic, creative city open to great initiatives.” Claros further noted the Chamber’s ongoing “sports Cluster initiative,” launched in 2024, aimed at fostering collaboration between the public sector, businesses, and strategic allies.
