The dangerous Uruguayan drug trafficker, Sebastián Marset Cabrera, managed to escape from an operation by the Bolivian police forces, after he was located in the town of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, in the center of the country, some 870 kilometers from the capital La Paz. .

According to local media, which cited sources from the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (FELCN), the whereabouts of the Uruguayan had been found in that region. According to what Commander Yumor Justo Condori told the newspaper Dutyin the operation armed escorts of the criminal “kidnapped a police officer who was trying to apprehend him.”

Hours later, the officer was abandoned in the northern part of the city, when escape had been guaranteed.

The operation took place in a very luxurious home and, although they could not catch him, the authorities claim to have caught two of his alleged collaborators. Both have been transferred to the FELCN facilities to continue with the investigations.

What is known about the presence of Marset in Bolivia

Until now, the police have preferred to keep the details of the investigation into the presence of Marset Cabrera in Bolivian territory confidential, due to the high level of danger of drug trafficking and the presence of a heavily armed escort.

According to the aforementioned medium, it is presumed that his wife, Gianina García Troche, also Uruguayan, would have been with him and they escaped together. It is believed that they fled in a white Land Cruiser truck, accompanied by their three children.

Marset has been positioning himself as one of the most violent and dangerous drug traffickers in the Latin American region, and has kept authorities in various countries on edge. In the case of Uruguay, it was not exactly a check, but from the government of Luis Lacalle Pou, more specifically from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was given an official passport that helped him escape from a jail in Budái, where he had been arrested for traveling with a false Paraguayan passport.

One of the key moments that marked his criminal career was his connection with Juan Domingo Viveros Cartes, uncle of the former Paraguayan president, Horacio Cartes. Both collaborated to coordinate the arrival in Uruguay of 450 kilograms of marijuana in a small plane that was piloted by Viveros Cartes.

The operations known as “Wayra” and “Halcón” led to the convictions of both the Paraguayan and Marset, who admitted being the recipient of the seized shipment.
