Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who is being sued by numerous lawsuits, invited his supporters to participate in a “major demonstration” on April 21 on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, two months after a similar first demonstration that took place in Sao Paulo.

“We will follow up on what happened in São Paulo on February 25 by providing information about our democratic rule of law,” the far-right politician said in a video message posted on his official accounts on social media platforms.
The demonstration in São Paulo gathered approximately 185,000 people, according to researchers’ estimates.
This demonstration took place after a large-scale security operation carried out by the police as part of its investigation into a “coup attempt” suspected to have been instigated by Bolsonaro and some of his aides to avoid his defeat in the 2022 presidential elections against his leftist rival, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
During that security operation, which was carried out on February 8, a travel ban was issued against the former president.
However, in the video clip he published on Saturday, Bolsonaro renewed his denial of the accusations against him, stressing that the coup attempt in which he is accused of involvement is “the biggest lie in the history of Brazil.”
He added that he would discuss this matter in detail during the Rio demonstration.
Bolsonaro has always maintained his innocence, stressing that he is the victim of a campaign of “persecution.”
