Warhammer 40,000: boltgun 2 Announces New Playable Character, Branching Campaign for 2026 Release
A new trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 has revealed a second playable character and a branching single-player campaign, promising a more expansive and replayable experience when the retro frist-person shooter arrives in 2026. Developed by Auroch Digital and published by Big Fat, the sequel aims to build upon the foundation laid by the original Boltgun while introducing fresh gameplay elements and a deeper narrative.
A New Sister of Battle Joins the Crusade
The upcoming title will feature nyra Veyrath, a battle-hardened Celestian of the Adept Sisterhood, alongside the previously revealed character from the Ultramarines. According to a company release, Nyra offers a distinctly different playstyle focused on agility and control, contrasting with the tank-like approach of the Ultramarine. She wields a combination of bolt pistol, sword, and “cleansing flames,” offering players a new arsenal and movement options that complement the fast-paced “boomer shooter” rhythm of the game.
“The decision to bring a second outlook into the game is clever,” noted an assessment by the SHOCK2 editorial team. “It strengthens the motivation to play again and opens the door for contrasting level approaches.”
Branching Paths and New Foes in a Pixelated War
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 directly continues the story established in the first game, retaining its signature pixel blood, chainsword action, and 90s-inspired aesthetic. However, this time around, players can expect a branched single-player campaign, leading them through diverse environments ranging from the towering heights of a macropolis to dense jungle swamps.
The sequel will also introduce new enemy types, including Bloodletters and their demonic Juggernauts, alongside returning adversaries like Nurglings and Chaos cultists. The developers promise a more conscious and expansive experience, with each character – Nyra Veyrath and the Ultramarine – bringing unique skills, weapons, and playstyles to the battlefield.
