It’s time for the Quality Rankings of «la Lettura». One of the most eagerly awaited events returns to the new issue of the supplement, #628, which will be released on Sunday 10 December: the one with the announcement of the book of the year and with all the books voted for. The first ten pages of the insert are dedicated to the special rankings relating to 2023: the Quality Ranking, now in its twelfth edition, with the most voted novelties of the year; and the Translation Ranking, now in its seventh edition, which rewards the best version in Italian, always with reference to books released in the current year.
The Quality Ranking, created in 2012, is voted by a selected jury which includes journalists, writers, translators, collaborators and friends of the «Corriere». Each member was invited to indicate a maximum of three titles ranging between Italian and foreign fiction books, non-fiction, miscellaneous, children’s books, poetry, graphic novels, art catalogues… released in 2023; for the Translation Ranking which since 2017 rewards the best Italian version of works in foreign or extinct languages (Greek, Latin…), several professionals of the trade, translators and editorial editors were also involved.
Participation in the Rankings of «la Lettura» is only possible upon invitation from the editorial staff. The winners receive the work Barca by the artist Velasco Vitali, a bronze sculpture created with the ancient lost wax technique starting from artfully folded pages of «la Lettura»; the work was created by Vitali in Milan, in the ancient Fonderia Artistica Battaglia of Matteo Visconti, an entrepreneur who passed away at the age of 75 in January this year.
