Borderlands 4 Players Losing Loot to Out-of-Bounds Bugs, Demand Fix From Gearbox
Borderlands 4 players are facing a frustrating issue: hard-earned Legendary weapons are disappearing into the digital ether, trapped out of reach due to glitches and map imperfections. Players are now pleading with developer Gearbox to address the problem, which is impacting endgame content and eroding the core loot-driven experience.
The Borderlands series has long been celebrated for its satisfying loot system, a sentiment echoed by Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford, who recently stated that a deeper understanding of “why gamers love loot” is key for competitors to emerge. However, the thrill of a Legendary drop is quickly replaced by frustration when that coveted item flies off into the abyss.
The problem has been persistent since the game’s launch, but was significantly exacerbated this week with the rotation of The Oppressor into the weekly Big Encore boss fight. This flying enemy’s erratic movements often carry it over areas inaccessible to players, resulting in loot landing on rooftops, behind invisible walls, or simply vanishing off the map.
“Do not waste your Eridium on this week’s Big Encore Boss Opressor unless you want to lose loot,” warned one player on Reddit, using the handle PuzzleheadedDust8094. “If you value your Eridium and dislike getting screwed out of your items because Gearbox can’t seem to prevent your loot from flying outside of the arena or through walls, you absolutely should avoid fighting this boss UNTIL THEY FIX THIS.”
The frustration is widespread. Another player reported losing “7 OUT OF 10 Big Encores worth of loot,” equating to 700 Eridium wasted. “The Oppressor is one of the most frustrating boss fights in Borderlands 4,” a player named StretchDizzy7792 stated, expressing concern about losing faith in the game if the issue isn’t resolved.
Adding to the problem is the apparent malfunction of Borderlands 4’s Lost Loot Machine, designed to recover lost items. Players report the machine primarily collects low-quality loot, quickly filling up and leaving no space for the valuable Legendaries. “The Lost Loot Machine has to be broken,” one player commented, noting they’ve only found purple and blue items in the machine, with the majority being white and green. Another player added, “It’s supposed to replace gear with higher quality loot once full but it’s definitely not doing that.”
A Twitter user, @BunbunJackalope, highlighted the issue on October 17, 2025, posting a video demonstrating The Oppressor’s erratic behavior and loot falling into inaccessible areas, questioning the game’s quality assurance.

Players are attempting temporary workarounds, such as saving and quitting immediately after a Legendary drops out of bounds and then checking the Lost Loot Machine. However, success is far from guaranteed.
The anticipated patch, originally scheduled to address “unintended interactions” like the crit knife, has been delayed until early next week. Many players are hoping the ‘Day 30 Update’ will also include a fix for the lost Legendary problem. In the meantime, a PC-only mod called Ground Loot Helpers, available on the Borderlands 4 NexusMods page, allows players to teleport loot to their character, offering a potential solution.

Recent reports also suggest that a character previously planned for Borderlands 4 was cut late in development, though 2K Games and Gearbox have declined to comment on the matter. IGN recently profiled a player who dedicated 150 hours and 3,000 boss kills to determine the game’s true drop rates.
For players venturing into Borderlands 4, updated SHiFT codes, an interactive map, and a character planner tool are available to enhance the experience.
Ultimately, the current loot loss issues threaten to undermine the core appeal of Borderlands 4, and players are anxiously awaiting a resolution from Gearbox.
