Bridge Collapsed by God’s Destiny: Manager of Repair Company -Gujarat Morbi Bridge

AHMEDABAD – Deepak Parekh, the manager of Oriva, the company that repaired the suspension bridge in Morbi, Gujarat, said that it was God’s fate that the suspension bridge collapsed. The police arrested him on Sunday after the bridge collapsed. Judicial Magistrate MJ said that God’s will is the reason for the unfortunate accident. Parekh told Khan.

The police told the court that the cable in the Morbi suspension bridge, which killed 135 people, was corroded and if it had been repaired, the accident would not have happened. There was no grease or anything else on the bridge cables. The cable was rusted when it broke. There are no exact records of what work was done to strengthen the bridge or how it was maintained. The bridge was repaired and opened on October 23. But DySP PA Sala informed the court that the bridge was opened without completing the government inspections.

Nine people, including four from Oriva Group, which is responsible for the maintenance of the bridge, have been arrested in connection with the accident. Ajanta clock maker Oriva Group has been awarded a 15-year maintenance contract. They used to charge 10-15 rupees as ticket price to get on the bridge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the accident site. The Prime Minister also visited those who were injured in the collapse of the suspension bridge and are in hospital. In the high-level meeting, the prime minister demanded a detailed inquiry into the incident and strict implementation of security measures.
