The film “Bridget Jones’s Diary”, directed by Sharon Maguire and released in 2001, has achieved as much success as the bestseller of the same name written by Helen Fielding: all thanks to the funny story – that of 30-year-old Bridget Jones, in constant struggle with the scales and a little too prone to smoking, alcohol and foolish – and the well-matched cast. The protagonist has the face of actress Renée Zellweger, who at the time had a Golden Globe for “Betty Love” behind her but was still little known internationally, while her two suitors – her boss, womanizer Daniel Cleaver, and the decidedly more staid attorney Mark Darcy – were played by Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, respectively.
