British MPs demand ban on Sri Lankan military commander

by time news

British lawmakers have called for a ban on Sri Lankan military commander General Shavendra Silva.

They have stated that human rights violations will never be tolerated and that a Sri Lankan military commander like the United States should be banned.

It has called for a Magnitsky-style ban on Army chief General Shavendra Silva, who has been indicted on the basis of credible evidence of his involvement in war crimes.

British MPs Elliot Colburn and Theresa Villiers have made the request to the British Foreign Secretary.

The Magnitsky Act in force in the United States allows those involved in human rights abuses and massive corruption to be barred from entering the United States and their assets confiscated.

In this context, the United States has imposed a travel ban on Shavendra Silva, who served as the Commander-in-Chief of the Army’s 58th Brigade during the final stages of the war in Sri Lanka, over allegations of human rights abuses.

Both have pointed out that it is therefore necessary to follow the United States in this matter.

Theresa Villiers has said that Britain must show that it will never tolerate human rights abuses.

British MP Sarah Jones has already called on the government to support a ban on Army Chief General Shavendra Silva.

He emphasized that the letter was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into Britain, but rather a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into the allegations.

It is noteworthy that Sarah Jones said that Britain should continue to insist on Tamils โ€‹โ€‹living in Sri Lanka and around the world.
