Road Rage Shooting Claims Life of Uber Driver in the Bronx, Manhunt Underway

A $10,000 reward is being offered for details leading to the arrest of a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 55-year-old Uber driver in the Bronx. The incident has left a family devastated adn the community on edge.

The family of Issa Isac-mbolo broke their silence one week after the deadly shooting to speak exclusively with News 12, expressing their grief and calling for justice. “For me to stand here in the news about a shooting to my family member, I would have never thought of it,” said Mbolo’s aunt, Abibata Zono.

A Life Cut Short on New Year’s Day

According to police, Mbolo was driving home early on New Year’s Day after a long night working as an Uber driver when he was fatally shot in the head inside his car near Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway. His younger brother, Mounirou Zorome, recounted their last conversation, a brief exchange about a commission Mbolo was planning to send home. “‘Oh, I’ll call you back. I’ll call you back,’ you know and he finally called me we spoke about some commission he was supposed to give me, you know, to take back home with me and that was our last conversation,” zorome shared, his voice heavy with emotion.

Investigators have persistent the shooting originated from a road-rage incident. A witness reported that the altercation began after damage was observed to a vehicle outside a bar in Mott Haven.

“He Did Nothing to Deserve this”

Family members paint a picture of Mbolo as a hardworking and well-respected member of the community. “My brother is a good person,” Zorome stated.”He’s well known by the community to be always helpful. You know, he did nothing to deserve this. He was just working in the New Year and just trying to provide for his family and his life is just gone, just like that.” Zono echoed this sentiment,adding,”In the New Year’s,too,he does not deserve this. The whole community does not deserve this. We don’t.”

zorome emphasized the financial burden his brother carried, supporting his wife and four children, including a 19-year-old son currently pursuing a university degree and a 4-year-old. “He has a 4-year-old.One that’s 19 he’s in the university, he’s getting his degree, so he needs a lot of support as Issa, he’s the one providing for his education,” he explained.

Search for Ehinel troncoso Continues

Police are currently searching for Ehinel Troncoso, 24, in connection with the shooting. Authorities have released a photo of Troncoso to the public. zorome expressed fear for his family’s safety,stating,”He’s on the lose you know,it can be happening to somebody else and we also as a family we scared. We don’t know if the guy could commit another crime against any of us.” He firmly believes the shooting was random, stating, “I don’t think it was targeted. He has no issue with anybody… this is a random guy who got involved with my brother and just shot him. He’s a criminal.”

Community Support and Call for Information

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, along with Uber, Citizens for Affordable rates, and othre donors, have collectively raised nearly $11,000 to assist mbolo’s family.
