Brusque won a huge 2-1 comeback victory over Criciúma on Thursday night, the 15th, at the Heriberto Hülse stadium, in the eighth round of the Catarinense. Claudinho opened the scoring, but Marreco equalized with Rodolfo Potiguar and started the turnaround with Candelo, against, after a cross from Diego Tavares. With the result, the quadricolor ends the round outside the relegation zone.
Within Heriberto Hülse, Criciúma had not lost since October and had a 100% success rate in 2024. The quadricolor won again after six games without winning in the state, and after four games without beating Tigre.
First movements
The first half was busy. After just two minutes, Marquinhos Gabriel sent Meritão alone into the area, but the midfielder failed to control and let the ball go for a goal kick.
At five, Brusque attacked. After a free kick taken by Paulinho Moccelin, the ball was live in Tigre’s area. But, at the moment of completion, two Brusque players shared the ball and the play was lost.
At eight, Madison cleared the corner of the penalty area and dropped the bomb. Gustavo makes a great save for a corner. It was Brusque’s best chance in the first stage.
Tiger attacks
Criciúma started to grow in the match, with a lot of ball possession and volume of play. Meanwhile, Brusque closed well, but had great difficulty counterattacking. At 16, Renato Kayzer collected the live ball in the area, kicked firmly, and the ball passed to the left of Matheus Nogueira.
At 19, Ianson partially cleared the danger, Trauco won with a header and Marquinhos Gabriel shot first time from the edge of the area. In a rare moment in front, at 14, Brusque won the ball from Tigre. Ólávio dominated the area, fell in the dispute with the marking and fell for a penalty, without success.
The game was going on with Criciúma having difficulty getting past Brusquense’s marking. On the other side, Brusque did not give up on the attack. He tried to turn it around, but without causing any great danger to Gustavo.
At 34, Criciúma exchanged passes in a counterattack. Fellipe Mateus attempted a shot from outside the area and the ball went close to the goal.
Doing the impossible
The unthinkable happened in the 41st minute. Diego Tavares lifted the ball into the area, it hit Candelo and died inside the goal. Own goal. After losing to Nação and Inter de Lages, Brusque turned the match around against Criciúma, leader of the championship, who had a 100% success rate at Heriberto Hülse. The situation made Criciúma lose its head. Fans and players could no longer stand referee Diego da Costa Cidral’s foul calls. Some fans began to leave the stadium. Coach Claudio Tencati was expelled due to complaints.
The final whistle in the 51st minute of the second half was to the total relief of Brusque and its fans, who can finally see better days in 2024.
