The Academy of Sciences is concerned about the cancellations of credits which represent almost 3% of the research budget and contradict the ambitions displayed by the President of the Republic last December.

Last December, the President of the Republic gave a one-hour speech on French research to an audience of 300 scientists. He notably endorsed the creation of a new Presidential Science Council. A desire, undoubtedly, to reconcile with the scientific community, tired of administrative burdens and lack of resources. But, after the announcements of the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, on February 21 and of a savings plan which should reduce the research and higher education budget by 900 million euros, if reconciliation there was, it was short-lived.
