School is three blocks from the headquarters of the Association of Women with Disabilities of MS

Residents caught construction materials on the sidewalk of Colégio Adventista, located on Avenida Cuiabá, in the Leblon neighborhood, which hinder the passage of pedestrians and people using the tactile floor. The registration was made in the beginning of the afternoon of this Tuesday (20).

According to 36-year-old resident Bianca Bianchi, since Sunday (18), heaps of crushed stone, sand and pallets have been found on the sidewalk of the school, preventing the free flow of pedestrians. In addition, the materials were on the tactile floor, further impairing accessibility for people with visual impairments.

“On Sunday morning, I walked with the dogs there in front of the school and there were two piles, one of stone and the other of sand on top of the sidewalk. And some pallets of bricks on top of the tactile floor”, explains the resident.

The situation was also repeated in another establishment linked to the Adventist Church, the Novo Tempo Store, located on the same block, on Rua Tapirapes. In this case, a lot of gravel was found obstructing the sidewalk, also on the tactile floor.

Bianca reports that she lives in the region and always goes on walks with her mother, who uses a wheelchair. “I live there in Jardim Leblon and I always walk with the dogs and with my mother, who uses a wheelchair”, she said.

Three blocks from the school, on Avenida Cuiabá, is also the headquarters of AMDEFMS (Association of Women with Disabilities of Mato Grosso do Sul). For the president of the association, Mirella Ballatore, this carelessness on the part of the religious institution is a “disrespect” and “bad example” for the students.

“This is disrespectful to people with visual impairments, people with reduced mobility, the elderly, that is, it is a total disrespect and a bad example for students, parents and guardians. I am outraged”, comments Mirella.

Resolution – The reporting team tried to contact Colégio Adventista and Novo Tempo Store, both linked to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Campo Grande, to obtain a position on the incident.

According to the press office of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, tomorrow (21) morning, all sand and stones will be removed from the public sidewalk. The religious institution also apologized for the inconvenience.
