This week (March 1-3) will see the first ever European Snow Volleyball Championships for men and women under 20.

It will be organized under the auspices of the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), and the competition will be hosted by Georgia. The matches will be played in Bakurani winter resort (near Tbilisi).

The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation and the Snow Volleyball Commission are sending two teams (born before January 1, 2005) – one for men and one for women. We will be represented by Alara Izetova, Gabriela Radeva and Eriya Rashkova (VK DCS Varna) for the ladies, and Martin Pashov, Konstantin Kyuchukov and Gavrail Tsvetanov (from SVK Arda-Kardjali) for the men. The national team left for Tbilisi today.

On Thursday, February 29, our squads will hold an official training session. In the evening they will take part in the Technical Conference, after which they will also learn their draw.

By prior request, 10 teams from 8 countries will participate in the women’s tournament: Armenia, Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, Romania, Turkey, the Czech Republic and the host Georgia. For men, there are also 10 teams from 7 countries – Bulgaria, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Turkey, Czech Republic and Georgia.

One of the important decisions made by the Committee for the Development of Snow Volleyball at CEV, where we also have Bulgarian participation in the person of Todor Stoyanov, is to allow the coaches to stand on the court during the matches.

This will only apply in the under 18, 20 and 22 championships and will continue to be prohibited for men and women.
