Bulgaria will be without its biggest volleyball star, Alex Nikolov, in the League of Nations this year.
The problem in the back of the 20-year-old receiver is apparently quite serious and he will have to be operated on.
About ten days ago, Nikolov’s club team – the Italian “Kuchine Lube” (Civitanova) announced that discopathy with a herniated disc was causing quite severe pain to the Bulgarian boy.
In the next week, Alex will be operated on Botusha, and his recovery will take up to 3 months.
So Nikolov will not be able to play for the national team in the debut season of the new coach Gianlorenzo Blengini. It will be officially unveiled today. The Italian specialist’s contract is for 3+2 years. The goal for Blengini is to build a new squad of young guys and attack the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.
Until a month ago, he was Nikolov’s mentor in “Lube”, but he left ahead of schedule. The agreement of our federation with the Italian anyway was to focus entirely on our national team and not to lead a club team at the same time.
