Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have announced their immediate withdrawal from the Economic Community of African Nations (ECOWAS).

With military rule in place in these three countries, the military leaders of the respective countries have issued a statement that immediate withdrawal from the system is the end of sovereignty.

Military coups took place in Niger in 2023, Burkina Faso in 2022 and Mali in 2020.

These countries have continued to have tense relations with ECOWAS since these military coups.

It is worth noting here that ECOWAS was created with financial contributions from Western countries to protect their interests.
