Burkina: Ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States are working on the development of a treaty creating the Confederation of Burkina, Mali and Niger

Ouagadougou, 15 feb. 2024 (AIB)-The ministers of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) have been meeting since Thursday morning in Ouagadougou, and are working on the development of a treaty creating the Confederation of Burkina, Mali and Niger.

Around twenty ministers from the three countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) have been meeting since Thursday morning in Ouagadougou.

The meeting is being held following a three-day preparatory meeting of experts from the three countries last Monday to Wednesday.

It aims to revisit the Charter of the Alliance of Sahel States, and to develop a treaty creating the Confederation bringing together the three countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

This meeting in Ouagadougou should also allow the various delegations from the three countries to examine the political context, marked by the historic decision of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to withdraw without delay from ECOWAS.

The meeting is chaired by the three heads of delegation, notably that of Burkina Faso, Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, Minister of State, Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs.

The two other heads of delegation are Colonel Abdoulaye Maiga, Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, head of delegation of Mali, and the Minister of National Defense, Lieutenant General Salifou Modi, head of delegation of Niger.

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger formed the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) on September 16, 2023, consecrated by the signing of the Liptako-Gourma charter by the three presidents.
