Precisely during the most difficult hours of returning to routine after the holiday, bus drivers in dozens of localities went on strike this morning (Monday) and began demonstrations at the entrance to Jerusalem and Haifa. As a result most of the city and intercity bus lines were shut down during the morning rush hour.

The disabled lines include the Jerusalem Envelope lines for localities: Givat Zeev, Mevaseret Zion, Gush Etzion, Kiryat Arba, Binyamin Regional Council, and Ma’ale Adumim, and the Jerusalem-Ariel lines. In urban transportation, the bus lines were shut down in Afula, Tiberias, Migdal Haemek, Yokneam, Beit She’an, Dalit El Carmel, Isfiya, Megiddo Regional Council, and also the Matron in Haifa and the Beer Sheva area. The strike is expected to continue until 8:30 p.m.

This is the longest public transport strike in the last five years. The union is protesting the terms of employment of bus drivers in Israel, for which about 4,000 bus drivers are missing.

Aaron Shuvash, chairman of the drivers committee at Superbus, said that “4,000 drivers are missing on public transport, and we the drivers who do the work are tearing under the burden for endless hours. No time to go to the bathroom or freshen up. Today it’s 4000 tomorrow it will get worse. This industry is on the verge of collapse! “We in the Union of Public Transport Committees are on strike for the third time and we will continue to strike every Monday, until the state recovers and understands that drivers’ wages must be improved this year.”
