On Monday,October 13,Rhymes’ attorney,Patrick Butler,filed a counterclaim in federal court,vehemently denying allegations that the artist battered Gables. according to reports from Billboard, the counterclaim asserts that Gables “knew the statements were false, or acted with reckless disregard for the truth, including by fabricating allegations of criminal conduct and violence, omitting exculpatory facts and deliberately ignoring contrary evidence.”
Initial Allegations and Lawsuit
The dispute originated earlier this year when Rhymes was arrested in Brooklyn on third-degree assault charges, stemming from an alleged incident involving Gables.Gables afterward filed a federal lawsuit this summer, detailing accusations of physical assault and broader patterns of workplace abuse.
The initial lawsuit claimed that Rhymes “routinely degraded, screamed at, and made unreasonable demands of Plaintiff and other employees,” and allegedly engaged in physically aggressive behaviour, including spitting, slapping, and grabbing. Gables further alleged that the January incident – triggered by answering a phone call from his own daughter – resulted in Rhymes punching him multiple times, leading to the termination of his employment.
