But the questioning must not become an interrogation

by time news

They are all tired: the boys, who are fed up with an inconclusive and tiring teaching as Dad is, and the professors, who found this Dad without having a minimum of preparation, debate, so their certainties, consolidated skills.

And now the “symptoms” of fatigue inevitably emerge: professors who, before questioning, ask the student to position himself against a wall; others to move closer to the webcam until they almost touch the screen; still others to answer with joined hands; students blindfolded, or closed, with mirrors positioned behind them. Conversely, students who turn off the video camera every ten seconds or pretend that communication is interrupted just when they are questioned; Only partial shots: the ear, the forehead, an eyebrow, to be able to be distracted freely or chat with friends on the cell phone. An unequal fight: the boys always win. Unless the professor becomes a “jailer”, as in the case of the blindfolded girl during the interrogation: frankly, however, these images that circulate on the net, of this young woman with her face hidden by the scarf, screech, bring to mind interrogations of a very different nature! These are images that are not good for school, nor for teachers, nor for children, nor for parents. This type of “interrogation” proposes an idea of school intended only as a verification of learning and certainly not of education in comparison, respect, dignity.

Students have always found ways to fool the professors: microscopic rolls, notes on the palms of their hands, shirt cuffs full of information; notes stuck between the pages of the dictionaries or even hidden in the bathrooms. However, these cards had to be prepared by the student and so, by taking notes to write them, a minimum was learned (so much so that sometimes they were not even consulted because they knew each other by heart!).

And then with the professors it was an equal game: they got along well, wandering around the desks with an attentive look, already knowing what to expect and seizing notes and rolls. Sometimes some students were able to copy but the teachers had tools to counteract: they did not feel frustrated and ineffective in front of a monitor, as with Dad, without the possibility of interacting and knowing what their students are doing, and risking reacting in illogical and disproportionate way to try to regain control of the situation.

But one thing was certain: the parents were not interested in these “cunning”. Some had no idea, others knew and pretended nothing, some at times scolded, but they certainly did not cooperate. Instead, some parents have already been witnessing a sort of delegitimization of correctness, of the promotion of cunning, for some time. Parents writing homework out of the blue, or chatting with their kids during classwork to make suggestions.

We even witnessed medical parents who signed up for their son’s admission exam to the Faculty of Medicine, to stand by him and pass the answers! But it is not only in the school environment that the parents gave in: once on the bus I saw a father who stopped the hand of his child, to whom stamping the ticket seemed like a good game, and in a conspiratorial tone he said to him: ” wait, if the controller doesn’t come … ».

Let’s not generalize: we hope they are a minority. But how much damage they do to their children and consequently to society! In a country where tax evasion is predominant, the corrupt are the order of the day, the crafty are no longer negative figures, we should teach our children a correctness, a “different” morality. A morality that counts on its own strength, on its commitment with tenacity and perseverance and not on cheating, on bribes, on illegal tricks.

And it starts from childhood and throughout the school which basically represents the first taste of society!
