The company’s comments came after the US Congress passed a law requiring TikTok to separate from ByteDance or face a ban on the youth-loved app in the United States, and tech-focused news portal The Information reported that ByteDance was evaluating potential scenarios for selling TikTok without all the coveted recommendation algorithm.

“Foreign media reports that ByteDance is evaluating the possibility of selling TikTok are incorrect,” the company said late Thursday on its own social network Toutiao. – ByteDance has no plans to sell TikTok.

Members of the US Congress and government officials say TikTok poses a national security threat as long as it has ties to ByteDance. According to them, this platform can be used to collect data and spy on Americans, as well as to spread Chinese propaganda. TikTok vehemently denies this and in turn insists that it has never shared and will not share US user data with Beijing.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said the company would fight the new law in court.
