After Cremonese and Cesena secured their place in the next round by eliminating Bari and Verona respectively, Empoli and Napoli also reached the last 32 in the evening.
Empoli dominated Catanzaro, cruising to a 4-1 victory. The score was level at halftime, thanks to goals from Fazzini in the 8th minute and Bonini in the 13th minute. Empoli immediately secured the result in the second half with goals from Colombo and Esposito in the 48th and 56th minutes respectively. Fazzini added another goal in the final minutes.
Napoli, on the other hand, advanced to the 16th round only on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the 90 minutes. Bisoli’s Modena proved instrumental in frustrating the Neapolitans. Kheddira missed a penalty, adding to Napoli’s woes, but Meret saved two penalties from Battistella and Zaro, securing their progression.
