Venezuela’s Cabello Accuses US of Revealing “True Intentions” After Trump’s Oil Tanker Order

A recent directive from former US President Donald Trump to block sanctioned oil tankers has prompted accusations from a high-ranking Venezuelan official that Washington has dropped its pretense regarding its policies toward Venezuela. The move, according to the official, exposes a long-held agenda of “decadent and sick imperialism.”

Diosdado Cabello, the general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), made the assertions during his weekly television program, Con el Mazo Dando, on Wednesday, December 18, 2025. Cabello characterized Trump’s order as a public admission of the US’s underlying objectives, describing it as a “real and certain threat.”

“When I talk about imperialism, I talk about those who direct it, those who believe they are emperors of the world, owners of the world,” Cabello stated, adding that he received news of Trump’s message with “stupor and surprise.”

The PSUV leader specifically took issue with statements attributed to Trump accusing Venezuela of “stealing” land, oil, and other assets from the United States. Cabello vehemently refuted these claims, urging the former president to “review history.” He countered that Venezuela, for decades, served as a crucial energy supplier to the US without receiving equitable compensation.

“New York and Washington are paved with stolen Venezuelan asphalt, without paying a single cent to Venezuela,” Cabello reiterated, arguing that these statements undermine the justifications previously offered for sanctions and other actions taken against the country.

Further amplifying his condemnation, Cabello responded directly to Trump’s accusations with a demand for historical accuracy.

Cabello’s strong words signal a potential escalation in rhetoric between Caracas and Washington, as Venezuela continues to navigate the complexities of US sanctions and geopolitical pressures. The PSUV leader’s statements underscore the deep-seated historical grievances that fuel the ongoing tensions between the two nations.
