Blood Drives Scheduled in Caen to Replenish Declining Supplies
The French Blood Establishment (EFS) is launching two new blood drives in Caen, Normandy, on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th, 2025, as concerns grow over dwindling blood reserves. These collections, to be held at the Caen town hall, esplanade Jean-Marie Louvel, are a critical step in bolstering the nation’s blood supply and ensuring adequate resources for patients in need.
The EFS recently renewed its partnership with the city of Caen on September 18th, 2025, signaling a strengthened commitment to regular donation campaigns. According to a statement released by the EFS, these efforts are vital to maintaining a stable blood supply, particularly as seasonal fluctuations often lead to shortages.
Residents are encouraged to book appointments for Friday between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM, and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with slots available in fifteen-minute intervals. The EFS aims to collect 10,000 blood donations daily across France, with approximately 500 of those originating in the Normandy region.
In 2024, the Caen blood donation center welcomed 20,880 donors, including 6,967 blood donors and 1,231 new donors. This demonstrates a strong community commitment to blood donation, but officials emphasize the ongoing need for consistent participation. “Each summer it’s the same thing,” one source noted, referencing the typical seasonal decline in donations.
The upcoming blood drives represent a proactive response to these challenges. The EFS is actively seeking to engage both regular and first-time donors to meet the increasing demand for blood and blood products.
