Caen town hall paralyzed after a cyberattack

Cyberattacks are on the rise. It is the turn of the computer system of the city of Caen (Calvados) to be the victim of a cyberattack on Monday, said the mayor, Joël Bruneau, during the city council, according to information from Ouest France.

“The firewalls rang, we had to cut all the computer servers in the city as a precaution”, explained the mayor’s office, which specifies that the alert was given in the afternoon. “We had to stop everything,” confirmed the mayor to the assembly, at the start of the session.

First consequence: the live broadcast of the municipal council could not be ensured. On social networks, the City first explained that the retransmission was impossible “due to technical constraints”.

The city’s website was also inaccessible and civil status services were down on Monday evening. According to France 3, access to the portal to access the schedules of the swimming pools of the agglomeration was also blocked and the wi-fi was cut at the town hall. The municipality expects the computer disruptions to last for some time.

Since the end of August, the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital (Essonne) has also been the subject of a computer attack. While the officials of the establishment refused to pay the astronomical ransom of 10 million dollars demanded by the hackers, the latter began on Sunday to reveal the hacked data of the hospital.
