Cali councilor denounces delicate death threats

The members of public corporations in Valle del Cauca have shown their concern about the recent threats and acts of violence they have received, as happened to the councilor of Tuluá, Eliecid Ávila, who died on January 2 after suffering a hitman attack.

Now the councilor from the city of Cali, Marlon Cubillos, of the Conservative Party, also reported threats, who announced that they are sending him delicate intimidating messages through the instant messaging application WhatsApp.

Cubillos took advantage of an intervention in the Cali Council to denounce the situation and explained that he is receiving death threats from an unknown number that has already been reported to the authorities to try to find the person responsible.

“Don’t get involved in what you haven’t been involved in because we know your movements in the heights of Zanta Helena and we are paying attention to you and your movements and if you get involved there is already your drawer like what happened to the councilor toad of Tuluá (sic) ”says, verbatim, the threat he received.

The most delicate thing about the case is that the threatening message is accompanied by a photo in which Cubillo appears in a public place, participating in a rural fair, and they point him out next to a montage of a coffin.

“This is not the first time that I have been exposed to threats. During the electoral campaign that took me to the Council of Cali, I was subjected twice to situations of possible intimidation, which I also reported to the authorities at the time,” denounced the threatened councilor. .

The councilor also assured that from his seat he will demand security measures that guarantee his life and integrity and clarified that he will not give in to these anonymous intimidations that are being done directly to his personal phone.

“In Cali there are more of the good ones, there are more of us decent people, there are more of us who go out to work honestly, there are more of us who ask for security, there are more of us who ask for justice, there are more of us who want a Cali in peace, a Valley of Cauca in peace and a Colombia in peace,” he noted.

The councilor also pointed out that behind these threats there is a plan of harassment and violence against the Conservative Party, to which he belongs, since according to him there is a plan to attack this community in Valle del Cauca, and the municipalities of Cali and Tuluá.

The Conservative Party spoke out and asked Gustavo Petro’s government to provide security guarantees to this Cali Council lobbyist, before a tragedy occurs, warning of a possible violent attack against him.

“From the Conservative Party we reject and condemn the death threats against Marlon Cubillos (…) These threats are added to those received by other community activists such as the mayor of Tuluá Gustavo Vélez and the reprehensible murder of councilor Eliecid Ávila. Once again we call on the National Government to guarantee that officials elected by popular vote can exercise the functions entrusted to them by citizens,” the group said.
