Activision has detailed the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, which launches on August 21, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. For the first time in Call of Duty Beta history, the pre-launch playtests include a single-player campaign mission, alongside multiplayer maps, modes, and a Warzone Resurgence integration.
Dates, Platforms, and Early Access Requirements
The playtest period for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is split into two distinct windows. The initial phase requires pre-orders or specific partner access, while the second phase opens up to the public entirely.
Weekend One serves as the Early Access phase, running from Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11 am PDT through Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 10 am PDT. Players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC can access this round by pre-ordering digitally through platform stores like Steam, Battle.net, or the PlayStation Store for automatic validation. Those who purchase physical copies or digital codes from outside retailers must redeem a 13-digit code on the official website through the link provided by sellers.
Weekend Two is an Open Beta running from August 28, 2026, at 10 am PDT through September 1, 2026, at 10 am PDT. This period requires no pre-order or beta code. Anyone can download the open beta build on supported platforms, which include the Nintendo Switch 2.
Campaign Content and Multiplayer Maps in the Beta
Infinity Ward is putting a single-player campaign mission directly into the pre-launch test. Players can experience the mission titled Entrenched, which features infantry and armored vehicles in a large-scale fight to protect a vital nuclear power station from enemy control.

Alongside the single-player preview, the beta deploys six Core 6v6 maps spanning diverse global environments. Players can deploy across Rooftops, Silkworm, Transit 213, Cachette, Lotus, and Lithium. Classic modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Search and Destroy are paired with a brand-new experience called Kill Block.
Hardware Partnerships and Matchmaking Updates
Under the hood, Infinity Ward is implementing a new matchmaking system that was previously tested in Black Ops 7 in July. Speaking about the data-sharing approach between Treyarch, Demonware, and the development teams, studio multiplayer creative director Joe Cecot explained the team’s mindset heading into the launch.
“Hey, here’s what we tried and here’s what’s worked and what hasn’t worked.”

Cecot noted that the studio intends to monitor player feedback closely and react quickly using data gathered during the beta and at launch to maintain healthy match variety.
Warzone Resurgence and Platform Expansion Stakes
When Weekend Two kicks off on August 28, 2026, the test expands further by integrating Call of Duty: Warzone. Players can drop into Resurgence on Zodiac, an all-new map built around a DRC Advanced Systems drone assembly and manufacturing headquarters. The inclusion of Warzone alongside the campaign and core multiplayer marks a breadth of content for a single Call of Duty pre-release window.

By landing on Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Modern Warfare 4 expands its platform availability.
