The Minister of Foreign Affairs called on the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take appropriate measures to end the Gaza conflict and ensure the human rights of the Palestinian people. Hasan Mahmud.

The minister made the call while addressing the 19th Extraordinary Session of the OIC Foreign Ministers on the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday (March 5).

The foreign minister reiterated Bangladesh’s firm support to Palestine and called for an immediate ceasefire, ensuring the humanitarian corridor remains open, a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday evening. He emphasized on the Islamic financial safety net to ensure the basic needs of the Palestinians.

The foreign minister referred to Bangladesh’s strong statement to the International Court of Justice in February 2024 regarding the legal consequences arising from Israel’s policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He expressed the hope that peace would soon be established in the region, which is the demand of the Muslim Ummah.

Hasan Mahmud said, there is no alternative to the unity of the Muslim Ummah and the determination of all parties.

He also highlighted the need to reform the UN Security Council to reach decisions on issues of global impact.
