Heroic passenger Stops Train Attacker, Eyewitness Reports
A harrowing scene unfolded on a commuter train as an unidentified attacker began stabbing passengers, but a quick-thinking older man intervened, preventing further harm to a younger girl.The incident, which left passengers in “pure panic,” occurred shortly after 2:18 GMT.
Passengers onboard were initially unsure of what was happening, with some believing the chaos might be a prank following Halloween celebrations. However, the situation quickly escalated as shouts of “run, run, there’s a guy literally stabbing everyone” filled the carriage.
According to an eyewitness account given to the BBC, the atmosphere rapidly descended into terror. “Within minutes,people started pushing through the carriage,” the eyewitness,identified as Olly Foster,explained. He soon discovered he was covered in blood, noting that “blood all over the chair” he had been leaning on.
In a moment of unusual bravery, an older man physically blocked the attacker from harming a younger girl. This selfless act resulted in the rescuer sustaining a meaningful gash to his head and neck. Fellow passengers immediately attempted to provide first aid, utilizing jackets to staunch the bleeding.
The situation remained precarious for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, a period Foster described as “feeling like forever.” With limited options for defense, passengers armed themselves with the only available object – a bottle of jack Daniel’s whiskey – and “praying” the attacker would not advance further into their carriage.
Police apprehended the attacker after a struggle, bringing the ordeal to an end. The suspect is currently in custody, and authorities have not released details regarding their identity or potential motives. The injured, including the heroic passenger who intervened, were transported to local hospitals for treatment.While the extent of their injuries varies, officials report that none are believed to be life-threatening.
