Cameron: Latest Moves & Competition Impact | The Day

Just two weeks after its theatrical release, the latest installment in the Avatar film cycle, Avatar: The Way of Water, has already surpassed $1 billion at the box office. The original 2009 film remains the highest-grossing film of all time, exceeding the earnings of James Cameron’s Titanic.

Since the latest film’s debut, the director has remained reserved regarding the future of the series, despite the fact that the franchise’s owner, Disney, has already scheduled release dates for the next two films-2029 and 2031. Cameron told Entertainment Weekly: “I don’t know if the story will go beyond this point. I hope it will be. But, you know, we prove the rationale of our business with the release of each film.”

The director also appears confident about the potential continuation of the storyline, stating that he will hold a press conference to reveal the planned narrative for future installments if they do not materialize. However, expectations are high that the saga will continue, offering fans further immersion into the captivating world created by Cameron.
