Düsseldorf The emerging countries of the BRICS countries want to join forces in order to become less dependent on Western institutions. Some observers see the alliance of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as the “anti-G7”. Starting this Tuesday, the BRICS countries will be negotiating in Johannesburg on how to proceed with their alliance. Many countries want to join the group, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mexico, Egypt and Indonesia.
The BRICS countries have a significantly lower standard of living and cannot keep up with the West when it comes to new technologies. Due to their sheer size, however, the emerging countries could in future form an alliance that rivals the G7 countries in terms of economic output.
