(ANSA) – MILAN, AUGUST 13 – The launch of the first manned space mission aimed at flying over the Earth’s poles is scheduled for the end of 2024: called Fram2 (in honor of the Norwegian ship that made the first pioneering voyages to the Arctic and Antarctic between 1893 and 1912), it will be managed by the company SpaceX, which has already launched 13 human space missions in the last four years.
Fram2 will be the sixth commercial space mission of the Dragon spacecraft, which will be launched from Florida on a Falcon 9 rocket. The expedition will be led by entrepreneur Chun Wang, one of the pioneers of the cryptocurrency world. He will be accompanied by Norwegian filmmaker Jannicke Mikkelsen as commander of the spacecraft, Australian explorer Eric Philips as pilot, and German engineer Rabea Rogge as mission specialist. This will be the first space flight for all members of the crew.
The mission, which will last 3-5 days, will not dock as usual on the International Space Station, but will fly around the Earth, at an altitude of 425-450 kilometers, to explore it from a polar orbit. The goal is to study physical phenomena of the atmosphere that occur at the Earth’s poles, but not only that. Research will also be conducted to better understand the effects of space flight on the human body: the program even includes the creation of the first X-ray of the human body in space. (ANSA).
